Jill Pellew


Jill Pellew took a B.A. and M.A. (History) at the University of Oxford, and a Ph.D. at the University of London. Her doctoral thesis addressed the professionalization of the British civil service, 1848-1914. Married to a British diplomat she lived partly abroad, teaching at various universities and pursuing her own research. From the 1980s she had a 20-year career as an institutional fundraiser including five years as Director of Development for the University of Oxford. She is currently a senior research fellow at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London, and Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, working on the history of universities and their benefactors.
